Introducing Paratext 10 Studio:
As simple as you need it to be, as powerful as you want it to be.

Vision and Purpose

On April 14th, 2025, the first Beta for Paratext 10 Studio was launched. Decision makers, extension developers, and users all over the world gathered on Zoom to witness the newest edition of Paratext, our Bible translation software. We hosted three webinars for different time zones in which Glenn Pruitt, Product Owner, vision cast Paratext 10 Studio to viewers, sharing our hearts and hopes for the future. “As simple as you need it to be, as powerful as you want it to be,” he stated, hitting hard on the idea that Paratext 10 Studio can be a simple editor for you to translate the Scripture, or it can be so much more with the bells and whistles included from extensions in the Marketplace (coming soon).

User Experience Design

Ian Hewerdine, User Experience Product Owner, explained how UX (user experience) design affects the software and the users. He showed examples of different designs and workflows that the team was implementing and how it will differ from its predecessor in ways that are more intuitive and straightforward than Paratext 9.

Cross-Platform Demonstration

Katherine Jensen and Jolie Rabideau, two of our Software Developers, presented a demonstration of Paratext 10 Studio live for everyone to see and experience what the team have been so diligently working on. Starting from the website, Katherine downloaded Paratext 10 Studio and walked through the home page, text collection, docking, settings, and making edits in a project and sent it to Jolie through Send/Receive. Katherine, on a Windows computer, was able to successfully Send/Receive her edits to Jolie, on a Mac computer. This highlights the cross-platform and interoperability of Paratext 10 Studio, available on different operating systems (Windows, MacOS, & Linux).

Documentation and Playground

Jolie also shared documentation and where to find help articles on the Paranext GitHub page, which is available for anyone to utilize. Alex Mercado, User Experience Designer, demonstrated, for extension developers, color options, theming, and right-to-left and left-to-right capabilities. There is a playground for extension developers to test out what their extension would look like in Platform.Bible (the open-source code Paratext 10 Studio is built on), Alex utilized this playground to demonstrate its capabilities and usefulness.

Roadmap

Wrapping up our launch, Craig Nisbett, our Project Manager, took us on a journey into the future, where he discussed the roadmap and the planned extensions and features that the team will be working on in Quarter 2 and Quarter 3 for Betas 2 and 3. Beta 2 will focus on Tool Adopters, while Beta 3 will be focused on the Local Translator.

Our Deepest Appreciation

Over the span of the first quarter of 2025, invites to the webinar were sent out, roadmaps were created and discussed, developers worked hard to bring this much needed software to life. And then, we presented Paratext 10 Studio to garner feedback and show where we were and where we’re headed in the future. Paratext 10 Studio has big shoes to fill in Paratext 9; and it takes a lot to replace a much loved and needed software.

We want to thank everyone who joined our webinars, asked questions, and gave feedback. Paratext 10 Studio is much more than just software, it’s the way in which we reach the nations with the good news of God’s love and grace for the world. We are honored to be a part of a mission such as this. Thank you to you all for your support of this mission.

Paratext is a software that is free to use for our translators, but it’s not free for us to develop, a lot goes into the cost of making this software free for end-users. To to join our generous financial partners, donate to Paratext on give.sil.org. We greatly appreciate your support!
